Finding events

Everything on the calendar is free to browse, with no account. This page shows how to narrow it down to the events that matter to you.

The calendar

The calendar opens on the next few months for all of Australia. Switch between Month, Week and List at the top right. On a phone the month grid shows how many events are on each day, with the events listed underneath.

The three figures at the top tell you how many events are in range, the busiest day, and the next public holiday.

Filters and search

  • City: the eight capital cities, or International for big overseas events.
  • Topic: cyber security, AI, cloud, data, software, GovTech, startups, careers, and Major events (big public events such as the Melbourne Cup, which affect who can come). Choosing cyber shows its sub-topics, such as GRC, identity and privacy.
  • Format: in person, virtual or hybrid.
  • From and To, or the shortcuts This month, Next 3 months and Next 12 months.
  • Search looks through titles, organisers, venues and descriptions as you type, and copes with small typos.
  • Seeking speakers shows only events that are looking for speakers.

Every filter is part of the page address, so you can bookmark a view or send it to someone.

Sub-topics are matched exactly

An event tagged only with a cyber sub-topic, such as GRC, shows under that sub-topic. If you cannot find something under a broad topic, try its sub-topics or search for it.

Busy days and holidays

The Busy days strip shades each day by how many events are on, from quiet to busy, and marks public holidays with a diamond. Select a day to see everything on it, split into in-person and virtual events.

Public holidays are shown by default; turn them off with Holidays off. Turn on School holidays to mark them too (the grid marks them when one state is in view). The full list for every state is on Public and school holidays.

On an event page

  • The time is shown in the event’s own time zone, and in yours if it is different.
  • Event website takes you to the organiser’s page to register. Registration always happens there, not on eventchecker.io.
  • Add to calendar works with Apple, Google, Outlook and any app that opens a .ics file.
  • Going, Save and Follow need a free account (see Your free account).
  • Labels such as Cancelled, Postponed, Sold out or Unconfirmed (the organiser has not confirmed it lately) tell you its status. Sponsored marks an ad, never a listing.
  • Something wrong with a listing? Use Report this listing at the bottom of the page, and a moderator will look at it.

More ways to browse

  • On this week

Today and the next six days, as one list, by city.

  • Map

How many events each city has in the next 90 days, by topic.

  • City pages

A calendar for one city, such as Canberra, and one topic if you like: handy to bookmark.

  • Cancelled and postponed

Upcoming events whose status changed in the last 14 days.

Events in your own calendar app

Calendar feeds put events straight into Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook, and keep them up to date. Choose a city, topic and format, then add the feed. It covers the next year, including events that are later cancelled or postponed, so you see the change.

Members also get a private feed of the events they saved. See Your free account.

Questions

Where do the events come from?

Organisers list them for free, and we also read some organisers’ public calendars. A person checks each new event before it appears.

Can I buy tickets here?

No. Each event links to its own website, where you register or buy tickets.

Why is an event marked Unconfirmed?

We ask organisers to confirm upcoming events now and then. If they have not answered within two weeks, the event stays listed with this label. Check the event website to be sure.
